Dental Scaling (Détartrage)

Dental scaling is the procedure of removing plaque and tartar accumulated on the tooth surfaces and along the gum line using special instruments. Over time, these hardened deposits can lead to gum disease and bad breath. Scaling is an important preventive dental procedure for maintaining gum health and oral hygiene. The procedure is usually completed in a short time and is performed comfortably for most patients.

What is dental scaling?

Dental scaling is the process of removing tartar from the teeth using ultrasonic devices and hand instruments without damaging the natural tooth surface. This procedure aims to prevent gum inflammation, reduce gum bleeding, and maintain oral health. It is a fundamental oral care procedure recommended to be performed at regular intervals.

In which cases is scaling applied?

Scaling is performed in cases of gum bleeding, bad breath, gum redness, and the presence of hard deposits on the tooth surfaces. It is also preferred to prevent gum diseases and to stop the progression of existing problems. Additionally, it contributes to the removal of stains on the tooth surfaces from an aesthetic perspective.

Precautions Before Dental Scaling

Before the procedure, an intraoral examination should be performed to evaluate the condition of the gums. In cases of severe gum infection or advanced periodontal disease, additional treatments may be planned. Although no special preparation is required before the procedure, maintaining good oral hygiene is recommended.

Precautions After Dental Scaling

After the procedure, smoking and consuming very hot or cold foods and beverages should be avoided for the first 24 hours. Teeth should be brushed regularly, and the use of dental floss and mouthwash should not be neglected. Regular check-ups and cleaning sessions help maintain gum health over a long period.
